Google and Fiat Chrysler last in “late-stage talks” on a technical partnership at Google’s self-driving car project, according to on a report of Dow Jones.
That is only this latest in a series of reports on Google looking for a partner in the automotive industry to help it build cars with the self-driving technology, so it has done building as years. Back in December, a number of tales claimed Google plus Ford meant creating an entirely new company at build self-driving cars.
It seemed like a good fit, just Fiat Chrysler and Google could be even better. Google is looking for a partner by car-building expertise to help it build its vehicles at scale whereas Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne spent many of 2015 trying (and failing) to merge by GM after spinning off Ferrari in its firm — and possesses recently hinted that this search as a merger associate isn’t up.
Still, we’ve heard those rumors by Google before, and they could come to naught. For its part, a Google spokesperson told that it did no “comment on rumor and speculation,” though a Fiat Chrysler spokesperson refused to comment
